A Canning We Shall Go

Christopher visited us this week and we spent 2 nights enjoying seeing him since it had been nearly a year or more! We were really lucky that his work sent him here for training! Yay Portland!

Our stake recently purchased a #10 can canning unit for home use. We checked it out this past weekend to finish up our 50 lb of rice and some cat food. Dad is sure we need cat food so I made sure Arnold is set.
It was amazingly easy to use. You set the empty can on the white circular area, use the lever under it to raise it up to the top, put a lid assembly on and then push and pull on the long lever arm while it spins. Takes about 30 sec per can. Nice!
We finished up with 9 cans of white rice, 12 cans of cat food ( enough for 3 months ) and then some remaining sugar and white flour that we didn't have enough cans for last time. Fun and easy. We are getting very tired of making the weekly trip for moving to Camas, so we took a break doing this first.
As for moving, we moved all the rest of the items out of the garage and it is ready to rent or sell! Yay! now we just need a customer! http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/reo/894539684.html or http://portland.craigslist.org/clk/apa/894527600.html

You know, you're the only people I know who have cat food in their storage. In the Philippines, the cat WAS the food! :-)

Cat food storage? Interesting idea. We're just getting into the food storage thing... I wish any of it sounded good aside from rice. Though I might just be able to have nothing but rice for 3 months, I don't think Kenny would like it.
